![]() ![]() Of more interest to us, our own NITI Aayog setup the baseline year as 2018 and has recently launched an online dashboard for 2020-21 that provides interesting insights into how India’s 28 States and 8 Union Territories are getting along towards the SDG goals. While UPDP experts agree that the global pandemic has set the mission of accomplishing targets by 2030 back by several years, developmental researchers are now presenting various recovery scenarios ranging from a bleak ‘High Damage’ to an optimistic ‘SDG Push’. One third of the way down, the global SDG-Tracker, a free open-access platform provides some glimpses, albeit with significant data gaps, on how the world has done so far. ![]() The sheer breadth of the 17 goals, their 169 targets and 232 indicators would mean that everyone has a role to play, policymakers, researchers, industry, businesses, NGOs, and the general public. The goals range from eradicating poverty, to ensuring clean energy for all, and to reaching sustainable levels of consumption. When the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a collection of 17 interlinked global development goals in 2015, it also set 169 SDG targets to achieve by 2030, with progress to be tracked using 232 indicators.
